A popular WWE wrestler has been fired after rape allegations were made the day after his appearance at the Mid Hudson Civic Center.

Enzo Amore was the cruiserweight champion before being fired by the WWE this week. Amore, who's real name is Eric Ardnt, was called out on Twitter Monday morning, just hours after performing in Poughkeepsie during the WWE 205 Live event on Sunday.

TMZ reports that Philomena Sheahan claims the wrestler was aggressively hitting on her back in October. After telling the wrestler to slow down, Sheahan claims Amore threw her down on the bed, knocking her out. That's when she says he proceeded to rape her.

Amore denies that he assaulted the woman, but did admit that he knew about the investigation by Phoenix police. Apparently, the WWE did not know anything about the incident during the Poughkeepsie event. Only after the accuser spoke out on Twitter the next day did officials confront Amore about the claims. He was immediately fired.

On his official Twitter feed, Amore posted this statement from his legal counsel.

Over the last two days, Philomena Sheahan has made multiple public accusations against Eric Arndt (also known as Enzo Amore with the WWE), including allegations of sexual misconduct concerning an October 2017 incident in Phoenix. Mr. Arndt fully and unequivocally denies those accusations. He is cooperating with the authorities in this matter and looks forward to having it resolved in a timely manner. Neither Mr. Arndt nor his counsel will be making any further public comments on this matter.

At the WWE 205 Live event on Sunday Amore defeated Cedric Alexander to defend his cruiserweight title.  The WWE has not addressed what will happen to the belt now that Amore has been fired.
