Carnegie Mellon University mistakenly sent an acceptance email to roughly 800 rejected applicants.

Sadly it was a technology glitch that mistakenly sent 800 applicants emails saying they were accepted, when in fact they were not. the applicants had applied for the Master's program in computer science.

Reported by Bloomberg Business, A spokeman for the University said:

We understand the disappointment created by this mistake, and deeply apologize to the applicants for this miscommunication. We are currently reviewing our notification process to help ensure this does not happen in the future.

Seven hours after the email went out, the admissions sent out another email titled "CORRECTION OF PRIOR EMAIL / REVOCATION OF OFFER OF ADMISSION TO MS IN CS PROGRAM", according to Bloomberg

The second email clarified that they were not accepted to the program. this is not the first University to make a mistake like this. MIT, UCLA, and John Hopkins have all gone through similar situations.
