Let me just clarify the headline. When I say there’s a healthy version of something, I actually mean healthier than the original. And by healthier, I actually mean less bad for you. So I can’t really tell you that the following items are good for you. But I’m pretty sure they are not as bad.

Let’s start with butter. We all know that butter is supposed to be bad for you. But years ago I discovered Kerry Gold. It;’s butter from grass-fed cows. I have read and seen a few things about fats from grass-fed cows being better for you. According to these reports, grass-fed even contains good omegas. I’ve never read anything that denies those reports, but that’s because I choose not to. I’m sure butter from grass-fed cows is not health food, but I’d like to believe it’s not as bad.

Moving on to more healthy (or less bad) corn chips. I love Frito’s but I know they’re really bad for you. So when I found these Bearito’s that taste exactly like Frito’s but with less sodium and no GMOs I felt like I struck gold. I know that these are not like eating brussel sprouts, but please don’t burst my bubble. They’re not quite as bad as the original.

How do you feel about pepperoni? I love it but I never eat it. Because it’s super high in fat and sodium. When I tried Boar’s Head Turkey Pepperoni, I couldn’t believe my taste buds. It’s delicious, especially if you’re cooking with it. And it’s got way less fat and sodium. I know it’s still processed, but for a treat or on pizza once in a while, it more than does the trick. I love it.

You know what else is really bad for you? Pot pies. I’ve read they’re one of the worst things you can eat. But Blake’s Pot Pies are not quite so bad. Lower fat and sodium. Again, I realize it’s not good for you or something you’d want to eat every day, but if you get a hankering, Blake’s is the way to go.

And let’s wrap up with dessert. Peanut butter cups are delicious. I could eat them by the dozen. But I don’t. I feel guilty if I have one. But I feel a little less guilty if I have a Justin’s Peanut Butter Cup. Are they good for you? Nope. I’m pretty sure they are not. But are they’re not. But they may be less bad for you. And that’s good enough for me. And they have both milk and dark chocolate.

Am I fooling myself into thinking I’m eating better? Yeah, I probably am. But that’s okay because at least I’m trying. And they say everything in moderation is okay. Whoever “they” are.
