The 6 Types of People You Meet on the Walkway: Which One Are You?

With Summer on the way, the Hudson Valley is heading outdoors in droves, and one of the most popular places for outside recreation is the Walkway Over The Hudson.  On any given afternoon you'll find all "walks" of life hiking over the Hudson River between Highland and Poughkeepsie.

If you've been on the Walkway, it's most likely that you've bumped into one of these people:

The Overachieving Mom
You'll usually find her with a Starbucks in one hand, a baby stroller in the other and somehow she's also got a dog by the leash and another toddler in tow.  Yup, it's Supermom!  Sure, it would be much easier to stay at home on the treadmill while the kids are content playing with toys, but it's Summer and this overachieving Mom is going on the Walkway even if it takes all day long and makes the entire family miserable!

The Out-Of-Town Guests
If you've got friends visiting the Hudson Valley for the weekend and want to impress, your choices are pretty much limited to The Walkway or Applebees.  Don't forget to pose for a selfie so you can tag Aunt Janice after she leaves!

The Professional Hiker
They've got a backpack, canteen, hiking sticks, shoes that look like weird toe-gloves and determination written all over their face.  I'm not sure if they're taking the entire rail trail to California or just headed to Lola's for lunch, but whatever their mission, they're fully prepared for any situation that may occur during the 1.28 miles across the bridge.

The Couple on a First Date
You'll notice many "First Date" couples walking the bridge on the weekends.  They're the ones making awkward conversation while waiting for the half way point.  After stopping to enjoy the view, the decision to turn around or keep on walking will seal their fate on whether a second date will be in the cards or not.

The Unexpected Walker
This is they guy on his lunch hour, out for a leisurely stroll that turns into a full-on hike.  He's wearing dress shoes, dress pants and usually has a tie in his hands.  You'll see him on a full-on sprint a hundred yards or so from his car as he realizes he's due back at work in 5 minutes.

The First-Day-of-the-Rest-of-Their-Life Walker
Whether it's from being yelled at by a spouse or direct orders from the doctor, this person is turning over a new leaf RIGHT NOW!  "Hey, I should just do the walkway" they said to themselves.  Sure, they haven't exercised a day in their life and are now wishing they'd started this new regimen by walking to the mailbox a few times first... but hey, if they can make it back and forth to Highland without passing out maybe we'll see them on the Walkway again!
