Residents in Sullivan County reportedly heard a loud boom right before midnight Saturday.

Police and 911 were flooded with calls from concerned residents, who said they heard something that resembled a sonic boom.

The Times Herald reports that the noise was heard from Liberty to Cuddebackville.

Some officers from the Monticello Police Department claimed to have heard the boom, as well.

Could it have been a sonic boom much like what was heard in portions of New Jersey, New York City, and Long Island early this week? Those booms were reportedly caused by fighter jet flight tests at the Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, Maryland.

Could it have been a meteor? Many residents along the East Coast from Massachusetts to Virginia reported seeing a fireball in the sky Saturday night.

Or could it be something else.

The Times Herald said calls to Stewart Air National Guard Base have remained unanswered as of Sunday evening.
