Remainder Of New Ashokan Rail Trail To Open On Thanksgiving

The Ashokan Rail Trail opened to the public back in October but the entire trail wasn't quite complete. Word has come from officials that the remainder of the trail, including new trailheads, will be officially open on Thanksgiving Day.

The new trailheads are a welcome addition as only one has been open up until now. The Ashokan Station Trailhead is located at 3045 Route 28 in Shokan and the Boiceville Bridge Trailhead is located at 5080 Route 28A in Boiceville.

The Ashokan Rail Trail project has been in the works since it was proposed in 2012 and consists of 11.5 miles of trails that run along the northern edge of the Ashokan Reservoir between Basin Road in West Hurley and Route 28A in Boiceville. Design work for the project began in 2016 and construction got underway in 2017.
