Red Hook Man Arrested for Felony Drunk Driving and Resisting Arrest on Taconic

State Police say a man who was later charged with a felony for driving while intoxicated, fled police, and resisted arrest on the Taconic.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, State Police were notified by Dutchess County 911 about an erratic driver on Route 308. Troopers located the vehicle on Route 199 allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed.

Police say they followed vehicle onto the Taconic State Parkway. Police used their emergency lights and sirens to direct the driver, later identified as 31-year-old Thomas H. McCarthy, of Red Hook, to pull over.

Police say McCarthy failed to stop his 2003 Chevy Pick-up truck and excited the roadway. The vehicle became disabled in the median. Authorities say when they attempted to place McCarthy into custody he actively resisted arrest.

McCarthy was charged with a felony DWI after a criminal history revealed a previous DWI conviction from April of 2015. He was additionally charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.

He was arraigned at the Town of Milan Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
