Police found a Jamaican man who is currently living in Poughkeepsie hiding in the woods Monday night after allegedly stabbing a Hudson Valley woman.

Detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office report that they have arrested 37-year-old Carlinton Augustus. The Jamaican citizen residing in Poughkeepsie was charged with assault in the 1st-degree, a class B feloney.

Shortly after midnight on Monday December 7th police responded to a home in the Town of Gardiner for a reported stabbing. An adult female suffered a collapsed lung and was transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Police have not identified the woman's name or updated her condition.

Augustus allegedly fled the Town of Gardiner residence on foot before police arrived. Police attempted to located him throughout the night and into the morning.  Shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday Augustus was found in the woods not far from where the alleged stabbing took place.

Augustus was arraigned in the Town of Esopus Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash/$100,000 bond.

Ulster County Police were  assisted by the New York State Police, NYSP Aviation, NYS DEC Police, Town of Plattekill Police, New Paltz Police and the Gardiner Fire Department.
