Hudson Valley Police are warning residents about an ongoing Central Hudson phone scam.

According to Kingston Police, the scammer is falsely claiming to represent Central Hudson and is calling to collect money that is owned from past bills. The perpetrator claims that their Central Hudson service will be shut off if they don’t pay them immediately by money order.

Kingston Police say they’ve received several reports of this scam. All from the number (844) 487-8697.

If you do receive a suspicious phone call of this nature, hang up and call Central Hudson at 845-452-2700 for confirmation.

Central Hudson says their employees and authorized contractors drive in marked vehicles and carry photo ID. The company urges everyone to ask to see ID if a person comes to your house claiming to represent Central Hudson. A real employee is trained to show their IDs. If the person won’t show you their ID, contact your local law enforcement agency to verify that they work for Central Hudson.
