New York Could Ban Flavored E-Cigs
In recent years, more and more people have turned to e-cigs and vaping as an alternative to regular smoking. Some feel it's safer and not as detrimental to your health. Of course, there are others who disagree and say it's just as bad, if not worse, than smoking traditional cigarettes.
In 2017, the state expanded its Clean Indoor Air Act, prohibiting smoking and vaping in almost all public and private indoor workplaces, including restaurants and bars. Now, the new fad could be hit with even more restrictions in the state.
The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting that New York could be the first state to ban the use and sale of flavored e-cigs. The ban could go into effect as early as 2019.
One of the biggest concerns from lawmakers and the NY State Department of Health is the increase in usage among teens.
The dramatic increase in use of e-cigarettes by youth is driven in large part by flavored e-liquids, and flavors are a principal reason that youth initiate and maintain e-cigarette use.
If passed, the new law would only allow mint or menthol flavored e-cigs or vapes to be sold.
