A new theater may be coming to New Paltz

According to the New Paltz Oracle, the Village held a public hearing on Tuesday to discuss a plan to build a theater near Water Street Market on Main Street.pou

According to the New Paltz Oracle, the project is described as a "black box theater," which is a multi-use performing space that is usually painted black inside with bare walls and seats. These black box theaters can be rented out for experimental productions and performances. The intimate design is perfect for plays without a big budget for intricate sets and special effects.

Concern over parking was the main issue raised at the meeting, but village businesses seem to be very excited about the idea of a theater.  Richard Gottlieb who owns Rock and Snow said he would be happy to let the theater use his 12 parking spaces during performance times, which would primarily be at night.
