The Mid-Hudson Civic Center has announced that their new skating director is a world and Olympic figure skater.

The Mid-Hudson Civic Center's new skating director will be Gilberto Viadana. Viadana is a three-time Italian National Champion and competed multiple times in the Junior World Championships, European and World Senior Championships, in addition to the 1992 and 1998 Winter Olympic Games.

After his competitive career, Viadana starting coaching in Milano, which led to him being contacted by the Olympic Regional Developmental Authority to become part of the local coaching staff in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Viadana then became the Director of the Olympic Center Skating School, a program dedicated to skaters at the competitive level. Viadana will be implementing many new programs at the MHCC.

The Mid-Hudson Civic Center has never had a director that has the resume of an Olympic and World competitor and coach.

"Gilberto Viadana is the exact addition to MHCC Inc. we have been searching for over the past year. His extensive background in figure skating aligns with our mission to make positive changes in our communities surrounding our arenas," MHCC President Danielle Anderson said in a press release. "With his passion and knowledge of the sport, I’m looking forward to see how far our programs will progress and see how far our athletes will go with his expert guidance!"
