Marist Graduate Makes NFL History

A former Hudson Valley athlete now stands alone in the NFL record books.

Two weeks ago, New York Jets kicker Jason Myers connected on his fourth field goal of 55 yards or more, tying a record set by Matt Prater and Stephen Hauschka in 2017.

On Sunday, just before halftime in what turned out be a Jets loss to New England, Myers nailed a 55-yard field goal to become the first player in NFL history with five field goals of at least 55 yards in one season.

"No player in @NFL history has ever made five 55+ yd FGs in a single season....until @JayMy_31. #NEvsNYJ," the New York Jets tweeted on Sunday.

In mid-August, the Jets claimed the Marist graduate after he was cut by the Seattle Seahawks. He was named the team's starting kicker just before the start of the season, after winning a preseason position battle.

Myers graduated from Marist in 2013. He remains the program's record holder for the longest field goal, 49 yards, and graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer among placekickers.
