A proposed $10 million development would breathe new life into downtown Poughkeepsie. The project would see construction of apartments to go along with a fresh food market, food hall and craft brewery according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The long-vacant building on Academy Street will be known as The Hive, a collaboration between MASS Design Group and R.L. Baxter Building Corporation. Developers are all in on Poughkeepsie's rebirth and hope to encourage people to 'live, work and play on the same block'.

The Journal reports construction won't begin until 2020 but there is reason to believe this could be a catalyst to spur other development in the area. Not including construction, the project is expected to create roughly 60 jobs.

The 28 'moderately' priced apartments will target young professionals and will include a variety of studio, one and two bedroom units. The food hall will feature up to six different local food vendors and the craft brewery will most likely be a startup.

While many details still need to be sorted, the project does appear to be a compelling piece of the puzzle that is Poughkeepsie's revival.
