Kingston, New York is ready to open a brand new upgraded stadium after 2+ years of construction.

For a long time, anyone who visited the 100-year-old Dietz Stadium in the uptown section of Kingston, NY would leave wondering if the city would ever invest any money to upgrade the long-standing stadium.

Dietz Stadium Upgraded in Kingston

Those questions were finally answered back in 2021 when it was announced that a $20+ million construction project was approved to update the century-old Dietz Stadium. Clearing and construction have been going on at the site of the stadium at 170 N Front St, Kingston, NY since 2022, and as it progressed city officials have been providing construction updates throughout the process.

Back in April, we told you that the project, which includes structural repairs and improvements to the pool and pool house, new turf & track, scoreboard, bleachers, water fountains, fencing, and gates, sound and Wi-Fi systems, lighting, bike racks, locker rooms, bathrooms, food vending, signage, parking and more was close to half done and now it appears Dietz Stadium is preparing to open to the public.

Kingston Stadium Opening

According to Kingston Mayor Steve Noble, Dietz Stadium should be ready to open to the public, along with Kingston City School District student-athletes on Saturday, September 14th, 2024.

Noble told the Daily Freeman on Friday that he toured the stadium last Thursday, along with Kingston City School District Superintendent Paul Padalino to get a progress update on the project and said, "We are confident that the track, turf, and outside areas will be open on Saturday, September 14."

Noble also said that the school's athletics programs are planning to hold their first practices on the field that same day. Kingston City School District officials are also expecting to host a couple of games on Saturday, September 20th with a soccer game in the afternoon and a football game later that night.
