Every New Yorker's favorite convenience store is known for several special features, and while their annual Holiday Match Program and title of New York's Best Milk are impressive, the real star is their ice cream.

Growing up in Ulster County, my favorite Stewart's Shop was in Rosendale, NY (above), and my visits were never complete without an order of at least one hand-packed pint of black raspberry ice cream. Recently, Stewarts posted on Facebook to advertise their waffle cone sale (below), but fans of the store were drawn to another detail all together.

"What the... I've never seen an ice cream window at any Stewarts!!", came the first comment. "Where does Stewies have an ice cream window lol" wondered another. Suddenly, the hunt was on for the Stewart's Shop that had the magical ice cream window.

Did More Stewart's Shops Used to Have Walk-Up Windows?

One person in the comment section brought up a point that turned the search on its head. "[There were] walk-up window on old-school Stewart's buildings. Most are gone because they demolished or abandoned the old buildings for the new white big buildings". All of a sudden, memories came crashing back.

In a flash, I uncovered a memory: the Rosendale, NY Stewart's Shop that I loved so much as a child used to have a walk-up window before it was remodeled. While most were long-gone, at least one window still exists. Luckily, Stewart's Shops officially confirmed the location of the walk-up window (below).

The Stewart's Shop in question is their Schroon Lake location at 1068 Main Street in Schroon Lake, NY. For clarity, the shop boasts a walk-up window (not a drive-thru window) for outdoor ice cream orders.
