Is This Presidential Candidate Secretly Living in the Mid Hudson?

A Democratic presidential candidate says he lives in New York City, but is his home actually right in our own backyard?

If you watched the Democratic presidential debates this week you know that there are A LOT of candidates running for office. In fact, there are so many of them that many are completely unknown to most voters.

One of those candidates, Andrew Yang, is a venture capitalist who's main platform is something called "Freedom Dividend" that promises every person over 18 a minimum guaranteed income. Yang stood out during the debate as being the only man not wearing a tie, opting instead for a business casual dress shirt with the top button unbuttoned.

It turns out that Yang may have some very strong ties to the Hudson Valley. Although the candidate says he and his family are residents of Manhattan, he also says they attend the Reformed Church of New Paltz. A check of Wikipedia confirms that the candidate has named Mark E. Mast as the family's pastor. Mast even appeared at a gathering of Christian entrepreneurs that was hosted last year by the candidate.

Another clue comes from a message tweeted out by Dan Torres, New Paltz' Deputy Supervisor and Town Councilman. Last month Torres said "We love Andrew Yang! He is a New Paltz guy!!!"

A Google search of Yang has turned up very little information about him living in New Paltz. However, a short line from an article we found in the Washington Post seems to confirm that the candidate does own a home in our area.

Today, the Yangs live in a two-bedroom rental apartment in Midtown Manhattan. (Their sons, ages 6 and 3, sleep in bunk beds.) They spend weekends at a country home in the Hudson Valley.

Besides this line, we were unable to uncover any other information about the location of Yang's weekend residence. But it does make sense that the wealthy venture capitalist would own more than one home. The fact that the family spends their weekends in our area would also explain why the family attends services in New Paltz.

So, regardless of your political leanings, you may want to give Yang a second look only for the fact that it would be really cool to have a president who knows and loves the Hudson Valley as much as we do.
