For the second time in just over a month, a Hudson Valley man is accused of raping a local woman.

On Friday around 3:30 a.m., the Ellenville Police Department responded to a call for a reported burglary and rape at a home on Church Street in the Village of Ellenville.

Arriving officers were told that a man broke into the home, raped a woman and fled.

An investigation determined that the man, later identified as 23-year-old Jean Carlos Colon of Ellenville, broke into the home by pushing in a ground floor air conditioner and walked into a room where a 40-year-old woman was sleeping, police say. Her two young daughters were in another room.

The female awoke and allegedly noticed that Colon was standing next to her bed naked. Colon is then accused of sexually assaulting the woman. The woman tried to fight off Colon. He fled after a child woke up, heard her mom being attacked and started screaming for her mother.

Police immediately identified the suspect as Colon and arrested him two hours later at a bus stop. Authorities didn’t reveal how they identified Colon as the suspect.

He was charged with rape, attempted criminal sexual act, burglary and two-counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Colon was remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

On May 22, Colon is accused of raping a woman as she walking near a taxi stand. At the time, he was remanded to Ulster County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
