A Dutchess County man is dead after a fatal car pedestrian accident.

Police say it happened Tuesday night around 8:30 p.m., on State Route 22 near State Route 343 in the Town of Amenia.

As officials arrived on the scene, they found 52-year-old Theodore Miles Jr, of Amenia lying in the northbound lane of Route 22 with serious injuries.

Miles was transported to Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A police investigation revealed that a Toyota Camry driven by 29-year-old Lei Qu, of New York City was traveling northbound on Route 22 near Route 343 when the driver noticed Miles in the roadway.

Miles was then hit by the car after the driver unsuccessfully attempted to avoid him.

At this time authorities believe the accident was caused by actions by the now deceased man. At this time no charges have been filed against Qu.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit to make a final determination on the cause. More information may be provided as it becomes available.
