Town officials in New Paltz were forced to issue a rather unusual alert Thursday.

Swarming bees.

New Paltz town police and SUNY New Paltz issued alerts for students and residents to be on the look out for a swarm of bees near the campus. The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that New Paltz police got a medical call late Thursday morning that a person had been stung.

So, what is going on?

Seems that several crates of bees were mistakenly left at the Apple Hill Farm stand on Route 32. New Paltz Police Lieutenant Robert Lucchesi said the bee crates were more than likely meant for another stand.

Town and SUNY police set up blinking road signs and also sent text alerts. Pedestrians were told to avoid the area and to roll up their windows if they were driving around the vicinity.
