A small plane has crashed at Stewart Airport in New Windsor Friday afternoon.  The plane was a single enging stunt plane and was doing a practice run for this weekend's NY Air Show at Stewart Airport.  ABC7 reports that a county official confirmed to them that the pilot was killed.

(updated 3:15pm) There was just one person on board, that was the pilot.  Reports say that the plane took off at 2pm for a practice run and shortly after the tail of the plane broke off which led to the descent and the explosion of the plane.  The pilot's name has not been released.  According to Time Warner Cable News the show will still go on as scheduled. The NTSB has been called in to further investigate and will give the official report on the cause of accident.

(updated 4:50pm) The plane is in a wooded area on Town of New Windsor property and not on airport property according to New York State Police.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was a Giles G202 experimental aircraft owned by stunt pilot Andrew Wright of Austin, Texas.
