Rick Derringer got started in the 1960's with the band The McCoys who had a number one hit with 'Hang on Sloopy'. He eventually turned to blues rock and had a hit with 'Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo' in 1974 with the album All American Boy. AllMusic called All American Boy "Rick Derringer's most focused and cohesive album, a marvelous blend of rockers, ballads, and atmospheric instrumentals." They also called it "one of the great albums of the 70's that fell between the cracks."
