A wanted Dutchess County man was able to briefly flee police after crashing his car into a truck. He was later found and arrested in Sullivan County.

On Friday, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office posted to their Facebook page that they were looking for 47-year-old John Napolitano, of Poughkeepsie. Police say Napolitano listed Poughkeepsie as his address, but it was a believed he was also staying in the Town of Liberty.

Napolitano was on parole for robbery and attempted assault in 2000. On Wednesday, authorities attempted to stop Napolitano for alleged traffic and vehicle violations. Police say he fled the traffic stop which led to a chase.

Napoliatno was able to get away from authorities after he crashed his vehicle into a truck in a construction zone on Route 17. He was last seen running with a limp across the eastbound lanes of Route 17 into the backyard of a home on Crystal Street in the Village of Monticello.

Late Friday, State Police and Investigators assigned to the Liberty barracks eventually found Napolitano in a wooded area of Swan Lake. He was taken into custody without incident.

Napolitano was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail pending a parole hearing.
