Teen’s Auschwitz Selfie Causes Twitter Backlash

Breanna Mitchell claims it was an innocent mistake, but the pic she tweeted of herself at the infamous Nazi concentration camp has certainly upset many. Mitchell said that she and her father had studied about the Holocaust. before his death last year. Whether this smiling pic was an attempt at honoring her father's memory is unclear...but people on Twitter were not happy. The pic generated over 3,300 retweets in just the first few days.

While she's young and maybe doesn't fully realize the social significance of such a pic, her responses aren't exactly wining over anyone either. Now is probably not the time for such a display of defiance

Omg I wish people would quit tweeting to, quoting, retweeting, and favoriting my picture of my smiley in Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Like apparently is such a big deal that I smiled. Good Lord.
