Strange Lights Spotted in the Sky Off Lake Ontario

Well, this looks a bit odd. There was something strange hovering in the air off the coast of Lake Ontario, sixty miles north of Rochester Tuesday evening. 

What is it? Drones? Some sort of natural phenomenon? Aliens? 

Well, not really.

Hundreds of reports flooded in Tuesday evening after many people along the coast of Lake Ontario saw strange lights hovering in the sky. The internet and social media were set ablaze as UFO and conspiracy buffs speculated over what exactly was going on.

Turns out the real reason for the lights is something more down to Earth and routine. Syracuse.com reports that the lights were actually flares from the Canadian military as they conducted exercises Tuesday. 

The Canadian military says that the flares were dropped by the 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The flares were seen on the U.S side of the lake Tuesday around sunset. 

The flares were dropped from around five thousand feet to simulate a rescue run over the lake. One spokesperson for the Canadian military said the exercise was normal and that they we surprised it took this long to attract attention.
