The New York State Police made 242 arrests for DWI, and issue over 11,000 tickets during 5-day enforcement period. 

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the the New York State Police reported 242 arrests for driving while intoxicated during the Halloween DWI crackdown on impaired driving. The crackdown ran from Oct. 28 through Nov. 1, and the campaign aimed to reduced the deaths and injuries caused by drivers who are intoxicated or impaired.

State Police, as well as local law enforcement also targeted drivers who were distracted, speeding, not wearing seat belts, and not following the "move over" law.

State police issued 11,497 total tickets, during the five-day campaign, including:

  • 4,342 for speeding
  • 322 for distracted driving
  • 333 for child restraint and seatbelt violations
  • 176 for failing to “move over.”

Additionally, Troopers investigated a total of 1,111 crashes, compared to 736 last year. Of these crashes, 227 people were injured, and 3 people were killed. According to a press release, the most arrests for DWI came from the upper and lower Hudson Valley.
