We've always heard "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?". Well, scientists have finally figured it out.

So how many licks does it take? As reported by Huffington Post, a new mathematical model formulated by NYU and FSU puts the answer at 1,000 licks.

That number is an estimate based off using a 1-inch lollipop, and this number will hold true if the tongue does all the work, with no help from the teeth (yes, that sounds dirty, I apologize).

So with this math, it means a Tootsie Pop, at approximately 1.063 inches in diameter, would need to be licked about 2,500 times for someone to make it to the middle.

Now there actually is a serious part to this study. The original goal was to describe how flowing water can shape and dissolve materials, which interests many different fields: Pharmacology, Geology, and Chemical Engineering.
