You wouldn't think a shopping mall would be the place for a mixed martial arts event? Well, that was the case at one Southern Tier mall over the weekend, as WENY is reporting that multiple fights broke out in the audience at the MMA event. A fight at a fight?

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office says that officers were sent to Arnot Mall in Horseheads break up a “volatile situation”, that could have placed both event goers and police in danger. In fact, WENY says that multiple agencies including the New York state Police responded.

The Arnot Mall website says there is an event center on sight that can used for large events such as weddings, birthdays, graduations, or....mixed martial arts. WETM says that alcohol was served at the event, though authorities are not sure a permit was ever issued. Fights, a shopping mall, and alcohol, all in one place.

NY State police say a 42 year-old man was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and second-degree harassment. There are currently few other details how and why the brawl broke out, or how many people were involved.

The event was promoted as Gladius Fights 36, which featured both MMA and kickboxing at the local mall May 11.
