Remembering Levon Helm on His Birthday

On May 26, 1940 a legend was born. On April 19, 2012 we lost a legend.  But the years in between sure were great for the music world..  Those are the years that we had Levon Helm. I have been a fan of The Band for as long as I can remember.  And I have always loved Levon.  He was a great drummer, singer, mandolin player, a great all around musician.  A musician’s musician.

I was lucky enough to meet Levon a few times.  At the radio station a couple of times, at The Chance a couple of times, and once at Dutchess Stadium when he played a show there.  He was so humble, so nice.  He acted as if he was the lucky one to meet us.

Today we remember a great man on what would have been his 76th birthday, and celebrating his music and his life, and the difference he made in ours.
