Poughkeepsie Brewery Wins Medal at National Beer Festival

A local brewery is getting national attention for one of their beers.

This year's Great American Beer Festival was held in Denver over the weekend and a local brewery walked away with high honors.

While there are many beer competitions held all over the United States every year, the Great American Beer Festival is known as one of the most prestigious. A panel of beer experts from around the world judge beers submitted for the festival, identifying three winners that best exemplify each style. This year there were almost 9,500 entries submitted from 2,000 breweries across the country.

Winning a GABF medal is not easy, and something that many brewers strive their entire careers for. A local brewer, however, now has one. And it's actually not his first.

Facebook/King's Court Brewing Company

This weekend Cortlandt Toczylowski from King's Court Brewery in Poughkeepsie won a silver medal for his Imperial Red Ale named Frogs Like Possum. The 9.0 ABV wowed judges, earning the second-place medal in the Imperial Red Ale category.

Cortlandt had previously medaled at the GABF, visitors at King's Court may have noticed the award proudly on display at the brewery.
