A family from Brooklyn is wanted by Canadian Police for questioning, after officials say they found their baby locked in a safe.

Police say the family was staying at a Howard Johnson's on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, when hotel maintenance was told that a baby had been locked in a safe. A worker removed the baby, however the parents were also on scene. CBS Albany reports that the parents quickly left the hotel before anyone was able to call the police.

The baby was alert and crying when the safe was opened. Police believe the baby is less than a year old, and small enough to fit in the safe. The safe is about 19 inches wide, 13 inches tall and 16 inches deep, according to CBS NY.

Investigators say they have no idea how the baby wound up locked inside the safe. Officials are trying to locate the family to check on the child's welfare. They say the license plate associated with the hotel guests is from New Jersey, B31EUB, which belongs to a 2015 grey Ford passenger van.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Canadian police at (905) 688-4111 ext. 4320
