For the first time in history, New York State had three horses entered in today's Kentucky Derby. I say "had", because one horse, International Star, was scratched from the race. International Star is locally owned by Ken Ramsey in Dutchess County. International Star reportedly had heat in one of his feet this morning, and they opted to scratch. Look for him to hopefully appear at the Preakness. Also still in the running for the roses are Upstart, owned by Ralph M. Evans of Westchester County, and Tencendur, owned by Phillip S. Birsh from Saratoga County. The Kentucky Derby is presented by NBC Sports.
