Netflix Alison Brie Wrestling Comedy ‘GLOW’ Lights Up First Teaser
Netflix’s GLOW hasn’t yet set an official 2017 premiere date, but the new wrestling comedy from Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan with star Alison Brie is starting to pipe its entrance music. See for yourself in a first teaser for the new series, promising the arrival of some gorgeous ladies.
Star Alison Brie shared a quick tease from the newly-created Twitter account of the upcoming series, teasing that “the gorgeous ladies are coming.” No date was given with the graphic teaser, though its very creation suggests that Netflix is likely to come forward with additional details soon.
So reads the GLOW synopsis:
Inspired by the real story of the 1980's female wrestling league, the series – set in Los Angeles and showcasing big hair and body slams – will be the fictionalized story of an out of work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.
Thus far, the series also stars Betty Gilpin as Debbie Eagan, Marc Maron as Sam Sylvia, Britney Young as Carmen Wade, Sydelle Noel as Cherry Bang, Britt Baron as Justine, Jackie Tohn as Melrose, Kimmy Gatewood as Stacey, Rebekka Johnson as Dawn, Kate Nash as Rhonda, Sunita Mani as Arthie, Kia Stevens as Tammé and Gayle Rankin as Sheila the She Wolf.
The new scripted series is inspired by the actual “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” league that emerged in the ‘80s. Following its 1986 debut, the original G.L.O.W. became unscripted syndicated series, eventually transitioning to events and parties. Kohan and fellow Orange Is the New Black vet Tara Herrmann will serve as executive producer, with the prison dramedy’s Carly Mensch showrunning alongside Liz Flahive.
