A Harrisburg, Pennsylvania high school student and member of the National Honor Society isn't exactly who he said he was.

Harrisburg Police say that Asher Potts, a student who enrolled at John Harris High School in the fall of 2012, is really a 23 year-old Ukrainian national named Artur Samarin.

The news came as a shock to many, as the student who was known as Asher Potts carried a 4.16 grade point average, was a member of the ROTC and Naval Sea Cadet Programs, and also worked for student advisory group at a local food bank, according to CBS.

Police say that Samarin had stayed in the United States after his visa had expired. Police did say though that he did carry a legit Pennsylvania driver's license.

WHP-TV News reports that Samarin is charged with theft, identity theft and tampering with public records, police say. Samarin also stands accused of using the false identity of Asher Potts, including using a false date of birth, social security card and other documents.

Police say that they believe the identity was made up and that no person's identity was compromised.
