ABOUT CAPE

The Council on Addiction Prevention and Education (CAPE) of Dutchess County has been awarded a second-year State Opioid Response Grant (SOR) from New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Support (OASAS). This funding will allow CAPE to expand its initiatives to prevent and reduce youth substance use.

The Council on Addiction Prevention and Education (CAPE) of Dutchess County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been serving Dutchess County since 1987. Established with only a few staff to meet the growing need for alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) prevention/education services, the Council has now grown into a constructive framework for delivering prevention, education, and recovery services. Their goal is to promote positive change by raising awareness about the prevalence of addiction, helping the community recognize its far-reaching impact, and implementing evidence-based programs that are capable of addressing this issue effectively.

Their dedicated staff provides training, prevention counseling, community education, and recovery services to individuals, families, businesses, schools, community groups, and other local organizations. They also host annual events to raise awareness, increase interagency collaboration, and foster unity among community members.

Teen Intervene

An evidence-based program for teenagers (age 12-19) who exhibit mild to moderate problems associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Motivational interviewing techniques guide this intervention to develop/improve communication and coping skills, and to educate students about the harmful effects of substance use on health. This is a grant-funded program.
