DCSPCA Seeking Donations For Pet Food Pantry Assistance Program

DCSPCA Pet Food Pantry Shelves Running Low

Food insecurity is something that not only impacts the humans sitting around an empty dinner table, but our furry family members feel the impact as well. The Dutchess County SPCA recently shared that they could use a little help in order to continue helping local pet owners:

Food insecurity is an unfortunate reality that affects many members of our community, and we don't want our neighbors to feel like surrendering their pet is their only option when they can't afford to feed them. We’re proud to offer this program to help local families keep their pets well-fed, happy, and healthy, and with your support, we can continue to do so. Every can and every bag makes a difference!

The Dutchess County SPCA, located in Hyde Park on Violet Avenue, offers a Pet Food Pantry for county pet owners who are struggling to feed their animals. Open to people on public assistance, seniors on a fixed income, or anyone who can demonstrate need, the pantry is open by appointment seven days a week.

In order for county residents to become eligible to receive pet food assistance through the pantry, the DCSPCA does require a bit of an intake process which includes an interview to determine the 'appropriate amount and diet' for the animals. From there, pet owners would then be given new, unopened bags and cans of pet food at no charge.

What Types Of Donations Are Needed?

In order to restock the pantry to be able to provide pet food assistance to local residents, the Dutchess County SPCA is currently asking for the following:

dry and wet adult cat food
kitten wet food
adult dog wet food
puppy wet food

As far as brands, any and all are welcome (and appreciated). Donations can be made 24/7 to the bin outside their front door (636 Violet Avenue in Hyde Park), and you can even make a purchase from their Amazon Wishlist for direct delivery to the SPCA.

The DCSPCA, one of the oldest SPCAs in the country, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit no-kill shelter funded almost entirely by private donations.
