An 18-year-old is facing assault charges after biting a police officer in Ulster County

On Sunday, at approximately 1:00 p.m. Saugerties Police responded to to a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash at 1224 Churchland Lane in the Town of Saugerties.

Upon arrival of officers, the operator of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot. After a short pursuit, the operator, identified as 18-year-old Jacob Browe was taken into custody.

As a result of injuries sustained in the crash, Browe was transported by ambulance to Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley Broadway Campus (Kingston), where he was treated and released.

When a Suagerties Police Officer attempted to take Browe into custody in the Emergency Room, for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Alcohol, he became combative and resisted the officers' attempt to place handcuffs on him.

During the struggle, Browe bit the officer on the leg, breaking the skin, resulting in the officer requiring medical attention. Kingston Police responded to the Emergency Room and assisted in taking Browe into custody.

Browe was transported to Saugerties Police headquarters, where he was chaged with Assault second-degree, a felony, Resisting Arrest, Driving While Intoxicated, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and speeding.

He was arraigned in the Saugerties Justice Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
