A Hudson Valley man was sentenced to prison in the stabbing murder of another man.

According to the prosecution, on April 18, 2015 around 6:30 a.m, David Benitez was seen on video surveillance leaving a deli at 45 Palisade Avenue in Yonkers. 23-year-old Antonio Barnett, of Yonkers, is then seen on video plunging a large kitchen knife into the victim’s back.

Moments later, Benitez ran while Barnett chased him to an apartment building located at 8 Schroeder Street. Benitez closed and locked a rear gate. A security guard at Schlobohm Houses called 911 reporting a man at the gate of the apartment attempting to stab another man.

Police responded and found Benitez bleeding heavily. He was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and died in surgery two hours later.

Minutes later, based on witness descriptions of Barnett, other members of the Yonkers Police Department located him at nearby gas station and placed him under arrest.

The knife was recovered on the roof of a nearby building.

In Westchester County Court Barnett was sentenced to 22 years in prison for manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. He will be required to undergo five years post-release supervision.
