A 26-year-old was killed when a car lost control and flipped into a pond.

On Sunday around 7:45 p.m., first responders responded to reports of a car submerged into water between Karlsburg Road and Seven Springs Mountain Road in Monroe near the Kiryas Joel Fire Department.

For an unknown reason, the driver lost control and drove into the water. First responders found the overturned car submerged in the water.

The driver, 26-year-old Jacob Farkas of Kiryas Joel was unresponsive when he was removed from his 2018 Hyundai Sonata.  He was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased, police say.

 

Monroe Fire Department SCUBA responded and searched the area for any other possible victims, but couldn't' find anyone. According to New York State Police, there is no indication there were any other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
