A fire truck being delivered to a department on Long Island crashed today, resulting in miles of backed up traffic on Interstate 84.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports the truck was being delivered to the Islip Terrace Fire Department in Suffolk County. The brand new truck crashed in East Fishkill near the Lime Kiln Road exit. At some points, the traffic reportedly stretched out for more than three miles.

The problem was compounded when a tractor trailer truck attempted to avoid traffic by taking a u-turn and became stuck, blocking the westbound lanes as well. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. According to state police spokesman Melissa McMorris, the driver was transported to Danbury Hospital. Delays remain in the area at this time.
