Two of the biggest classic rock songs of all time didn't even crack the top five during the annual Memorial Day Weekend countdown.

WPDH listeners were glued to their radios and mobile apps this weekend as the Home of Rock and Roll counted down the 500 greatest songs of all time. The annual list always sparks controversy, and sometimes anger from music fans who enjoy debating the placement of their favorite songs.

While not as controversial as last year's blunder when legendary radio programmer Joe Limardi mistakenly left the top two songs off of the countdown, this year's final list has generated some robust feedback from radio listeners.

Traditionally, "Stairway to Heaven" and "Freebird" have dominated the list, easily taking the top spots in the countdown. In recent years, however, those songs have fallen out of favor with radio listeners for other songs that have slowly crept up the list.

This year, "Stairway to Heaven" has fallen all the way to number 18 on the countdown. For the perennial number one song to not even crack the top 10 is quite a drop. "Freebird" came in at number six for the second year in the row, just missing the top five.

Here are the top ten songs from this year's countdown:

  1. Black Dog - Led Zeppelin
  2. Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
  3. Another Brick in the Wall - Pink Floyd
  4. Back in Black - AC/DC
  5. We will Rock You/We Are The Champions - Queen
  6. Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
  7. Runnin' With The Devil - Van Halen
  8. Peace of Mind - Boston
  9. Barracuda - Heart
  10. Carry on Wayward Son - Kansas
