Today American Pharoah will attempt to be the first Triple Crown winner in horse racing since 1978. Why has it taken so long? My personal opinion is that the thoroughbred lineage goes only so far, and it's not as easy breeding champions as it once was. Plus the fact that these horses are only 3 years old and not fully developed yet, so there's a greater chance of breaking down at some point. Then there's always the argument that some people enter horses in the Belmont Stakes just to spoil the shot at a Triple Crown, without having raced at both the first two races. Having said all that, I'm going out on a limb and say that I think American Pharoah stands a very good chance of making history. The horse is incredibly fit and not afraid to run on any track condition, as was witnessed at the Preakness. We'll have results of the race today on 101.5 WPDH if you can't watch on NBC. TV coverage gets under way at 4:30pm.
