Just when you think you've seen everything. Alligators are commonly found in the freshwater, marshy environments of the American south. It isn't too uncommon to spot one near the water in states like Florida, Louisiana, or Georgia.  But right in the middle of New York City?

CBS New York reports that a 3-foot-long alligator was seen strolling down the street in Inwood on Thursday. The small gator was spotted walking down the sidewalk on West 205th Street, off 9th Avenue. Police intervened and the animal was taken away by Animal Care and Control. They are now looking to place it with a wildlife rehabilitator.

Police sources told CBS2 investigators believe the gator was a pet that was set loose.
