Tompkins Community Bank Honors October’s Vet Who Rocks
Tompkins Community Bank is congratulating a Hudson Valley veteran who has been named a WPDH Vet Who Rocks.
This month, Michael Brady will receive $500 and become eligible for a $10,000 reward to be handed out to one Hudson Valley Veteran on Veteran's Day. He was nominated to be a Vet Who Rocks by his daughter-in-law, Michele, who shared Mike's story with us.
Mike spent 20 years in the Air Force and was stationed in Saudi Arabia as part of the Red Horse Group, which is a heavy construction unit. His son was born while he was overseas and wasn't able to see him until he arrived home months later. During his decades of service, Mike was also stationed in New Mexico at White Sands AFB before eventually coming back home to Poughkeepsie.
Upon returning home, Mike landed a job at Our Lady of Lourdes High School as head of Maintenance. According to Michele, he spent many years working long days, overtime for heavy snowstorms and "making sure the building was in tip-top shape for students and staff."
Currently, Mike is the Vice Commander of VFW Post 170 in Poughkeepsie and dedicates his time volunteering for every event, from pancake breakfasts to serving meals to the homeless to just mowing the lawn because that's what is needed at the time. He's a grandfather to five grandchildren who Michele says "couldn't be more proud."
