Town of Newburgh Police were assisted on Monday night by New York State Police, in helping save a distraught man's life.

The distraught 29-year-old male walked out to the center span of the Newburgh Beacon Bridge, and was clinging to the outermost railing on the southside of the bridge. The man was upset over recent marital and personal issues, according to the press release.

Town of Newburgh Officers and Troopers first made contact with the individual until the Crisis Intervention team arrived to handle any negotiations. After two and half hours of conversation, the male crawled back to the walkway and was taken into custody without incident.

Town of Newburgh Police transported the man to Orange County Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
