Second Earthquake in Less Than Week Rocks Lower Hudson Valley

For the second time in less than a week residents in the lower Hudson Valley experienced an earthquake.

A 1.3-magnitude earthquake was felt in Mamaroneck Monday night, according to the USGS National Earthquake Information Center. The earthquake was recorded at 8:09 p.m., with the epicenter on Rockland Avenue between Hickory Grove Drive East and Jason Lane.

As of this writing, 24 people told the USGS National Earthquake Information Center they felt the earthquake. Tremors were felt in Mamaroneck, Larchmont, Harrison and Scarsdale.

The Mamaroneck Police Department told NBC they received many calls around 8 p.m. on Monday from residents reporting a "loud explosion" but couldn't figure out what caused the noise. No injuries were reported.

On Thursday, a 1.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in West Nyack, next to the Hackensack River, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The earthquake happened just 0.3 miles from the Palisades Center and not from the New York State Thruway.
