Poughkeepsie Playgrounds, Basketball Courts Are Closed

Poughkeepsie playgrounds and basketball courts have been closed and the Spring Festival canceled due to coronavirus.

On Monday, the Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation Department announced the playgrounds and basketball courts are now closed to help try to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Town of Poughkeepsie Parks and trails remain open for activities such as walking, hiking, jogging, and biking, but visitors must practice social distancing, officials say.

Officials ask visitors to follow these guidelines for a healthy nature break:

• Stay local and keep visits short.
• Visits should be solitary, or only with small groups, such as close family members.
• Be ready to move quickly through places where people tend to congregate, such as parking lots and scenic overlooks.
• Keep at least six (6) feet of distance between you and others.
• Avoid activities where you may come in close contact with other people.
• Stay home if you do not feel well.
• Stay home if you are over 70 and or from a vulnerable population.
• If you arrive at a park and crowds are forming, choose a different park, a different trail or return another time/day to visit.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Spring Festival has been canceled. But families can still enjoy some fun.

"We have assembled 200 “Spring Festival in a bag” kits to help you do this it. Each bag will contain 20 colored plastic eggs (filled with candy) and entry forms for our “Egg Coloring Online Display”. These free packets will ONLY be available for curbside pickup at Town Hall on Saturday, April 4," the Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation Department said.

The eggs will be available from 10 a.m. until noon, or until supplies last.
