A Port Jervis man was arrested after police say he was found to be in possession of over 600 bags of heroin.

William Attreed, 46, was arrested on Tuesday by Port Jervis City Police and New York State Police. He was charged with 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a class B felony.

Police say Attreed was in possession of 610 bags of heroin at the time of his arrest after allegedly transporting the heroin to the City of Port Jervis from Patterson New Jersey.

A search warrant at his Pike Street apartment yielded additional packaging materials and a digital scale. Officials say more charges are pending.

Attreed was arraigned in Port Jervis City Court and remanded to Orange County Jail without bail pending further court proceedings.

The arrest was based upon a several month undercover investigation by Port Jervis City Detectives into the distribution of heroin in the City of Port Jervis and Tri-State region.
