Pope Francis has announced that Mother Teresa will be made a saint on September 4th.

Mother Teresa was a nun who dedicated her life to helping the poorest of poor. Pope Francis set the canonization date on Tuesday, paving the way for Mother Teresa to become the centerpiece of his yearlong focus on the Catholic church's merciful side.

In December, Pope Francis recognized a second miracle attributed to Mother Teresa. That second miracle was the final hurdle to making her saint.

The canonization date falls on the eve of the anniversary of her death, which was September 5th, 1997.
