J. Geils Band frontman Peter Wolf was with the band from 1967-1983, and through subsequent reunions. The band remains active today. The band played r&b influenced blues rock in the 70's and then moved to a new wave sound in the 80's with hits like "Love Stinks", "Centerfold", and "Freeze Frame". "Centerfold" was a No. 1 single for the J. Geils Band in 1981.

The band reunited in 2010 to open for Aerosmith at Fenway Park. In 2013 they performed at the Boston Strong concert at the TD Garden in Boston with proceeds benefiting victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. The band also opened up for Bon Jovi on some U.S. tour dates in 2013. The band opened for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band on their U.S. tour in the fall of 2014 through the beginning of 2015.
